Frequently asked questions
What are the main ingredients in your bread?
My basic dough is made of flour (bread flour and whole wheat flour), water, and salt. That's it.
Can I pick up the bread?
La Merenda does not currently offer pick up at the bakery.
Can I freeze the bread?
Yes! For easy use, slice the loaf and store it in a tightly sealed freezer bag with as much air removed as possible. Parchment paper between slices can make them easier to separate, but it is not necessary. To freeze the loaf whole, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, then place it in a freezer bag and remove as much air as possible.
How do I thaw the bread?
Thaw individual slices at room temperature for 20 to 30 minutes and eat them as is, or toast them directly from frozen for a crispier texture. For a whole loaf, leave it wrapped at room temperature for 4 to 6 hours. Once thawed, unwrap it and warm it in a 350°F oven for 8 to 12 minutes to refresh the crust.
What is the best way to slice a loaf?
My favorite way to slice a loaf is to cut it in half and then place the cut side down on the chopping board. Then, slice it vertically into individual pieces. This gives half slices, but I think it is the easiest way to make them even. If you are slicing a whole loaf for freezer storage, it is easier to do so the day after delivery.
